How to create sub-activities by adding notes and tags

Use notes and tags to easily attribute your time entries to sub-categories.

Updated today

Do you wish the Tracker had more than sides? If 8 sides are not enough for you or if you simply want to have more granular insights to your data, you can easily add tags (# or @) or plain-text notes to your time entries. These notes/tags then act as searchable sub-categories/sub-activities.

Create tags

Tags are specific to the folder(s) they're created in. To add tags to a folder you can either click on the edit (pencil) icon that appears when hovering your cursor over the folder name and navigate to the "Tags" tab of the folder settings or simply select any activity in the time entry editor from the desired folder and type out the new tag starting with either the # or @ character.

How you choose to setup the tag structure and differentiate between the two types of tags (# or @) is completely up to you. If you only want to use one or the other that's fine too.

Adding notes/tags to time entries

Imagine you’ve been tracking a time entry for the "Development" activity. If you now want to assign this time to a tag you can just type the # or @ character in the notes field of the time entry it bring up a list of all available tags within that folder. In the example below we add the #MobileApp tag to the Development time entry which is an activity in the "Client A" folder. You can also add plain text as a note to provide more context about what was being worked on while the time entry was recorded.

Tags will also be suggested to you in the folders column, the time entry editor, and the Quicktrack window when you have an active tracking:

Filter and analyze data for projects & sub-projects

On the Insights tab in the software you can filter by dates, activities, notes, tags/mentions, and more in order to analyze your time tracking data.

If you have a Personal Pro or Team subscription you can then easily export this data by clicking on the export icon in the top right corner.

We hope this helps you to get even more out of our software and to get more insights into how you spend your time.
